    Weight loss program in VLCC
Hi, askhelpdesk buddies, I need your help , I need to loose weight as I am overweight.. I am in the age group of 25-30. I approached VLCC and they suggested me to take up a plan which includes 20 kg lost -guaranteed!! Which will cost me around Rs.16000/-.
I am apprehensive about the results as I hv heard this and got to read over net about the poor handling of VLCC regarding its customers , some have reported side effects ,some have reported no or very less effect og the program, please help me decide whether to take there program or not.. thanks a lot to all of u :)

I would talk to your doctor first. If you have a strong medical reason for losing weight fast, then this sort of diet may be beneficial. However, I'd like to know how much weight you need to lose to be healthy (not to look like a supermodel) and if there is a time limit.

Have you tried to lose weight by other means?

90% of weight loss is diet, so time is not really a factor. Just being generally active can make a huge difference as well. Try getting up and walking around the office more often, standing rather than sitting where possible, and turning off the television.

Diet: Try cutting out the white carbs, sugar, bread, pasta, rice, potatoes, box cereals, and basing your diet on fresh whole foods like oily fish, eggs, fresh meat and chicken, lots and lots of green vegetables, some dairy, olive oil, whole fruit, nuts, wholegrains.

One simple trick is if you normally eat a sandwich for lunch, keep the filling but eat it with a big green salad instead of the bread. And at dinner, ditch the pasta/rice/spuds and eat a big pile of veg instead. Those two changes can save you about 500 calories a day (or a pound a week) without reducing the amount you eat.

One huge problem with a VLCC diet is that you can't really have a social life. You don't realise how much food features in socialising until you are not eating normal meals. If you are eating real food and just cutting the white carbs, you can get a decent meal anywhere, even in fast food places.

What are you eating right now? Post up a typical day's food, with amounts, and I'll see if I can tweak it.

Diet is what will make you lose weight, workouts will make you look good with your clothes off.

Are you still on the medication?

It's impossible to judge calories in your food without weights or measures (bowl could mean anything) and how it is made. Dal can be low or high cal depending on how much oil you use making it.

What I can say is that your food looks very low in protein and vegetables. Do you eat eggs? If so, try some eggs and veg for breakfast. Something like a mushroom and spinach omelette is quick to cook and will keep you going for ages. Juice is not a good breakfast, it is almost all sugar, has a lot more calories than you'd think, and has no protein or essential fats.

Drop the rotis in favour of a big plate of vegetables. Again, rotis are high in carbs and fat (not the good kind either) and have no protein worth talking about. Dal can be a good lunch, depending on how you cook it. Do you eat tofu?

When you say curd, what do you mean? How are you on cottage cheese?

I'm sure you already know that it's difficult to lose weight if you are eating biscuits.

The best way to lose weight fast is to get your diet in order. For calories burned, it's hard to beat running, but unless you are already fit, you probably can't or won't run for long enough to burn much fat.

Cycling is a better choice, especially if you use your bicycle as your transport. You can burn a lot of calories on a bike, and if you use it to get around, it isn't taking time out of your day, so you'll do it even when you are busy.

Walking, climbing stairs, dancing, skipping are all good. Try standing up to do things like watching TV or working on the computer. You burn more calories per minute doing it, and you encourage your body to burn fat.

I use doubled toned milk for drinking and for making curd and I have the same. I do not eat eggs at all. But sometimes I have paneer/cheese made at home from the very same milk, and juice is which I extract out from carrots, beetroot, oranges etc.

That too without adding superficial sugar or salt. Yes I will ban biscuits from my diet. And if I do not have rotis in my meals then wt should I opt for .

I suggest you open a free account with FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal and put your food into it. You'll probably have to spend a day weighing everything, but you need to know exactly what you are eating. It will add up all your calories for you, and keep a record as well.

One thing I'd suggest is instead of making juice from the carrots etc, you eat them whole. The calories are almost the same, and you get much better nutrition, more fiber and feel much fuller. If you have a choice between a carrot and carrot juice, eat the carrot.
