    96 Ford Explorer Transmission Changeout
    Will the trans from a 97 explorer fit a 96? They are both 4.0 v-6's w/AT. If not will the torque converters interchange?

    I think they will interchange. Look them both over, if the connectors are the same, they will work. However speedometer may not register correctly, depends on the final drive ratio. BigTom3

    well I see its ben years so check this my brothernlaw has a 98 exploder and gets a tranny from a maybe,96 ediebauer gets home after leavn his core and begins install,, 3 or 4 kuss words later it was the dowl pins on the block were larger , so he drills it out with the OK from a certified ford douche, so now bolted up and a snashed hand , he hokks all connecters and o boy there s a extra pigtail to plug the casting on the trany was there but never used drill tap milld etc, so I the one who works on every ones junck on the side of my own grabs two ecms from local crap yard neather are identical but only a total 3 and on is for the year so really 2
    one is a 96 pfkc the other is a 97 but built late 8/28/96 and tha #isf7He but according to pickn pull a 96 4.0 4x4 autois fpkc
    now with it installed it it won't shift in to od maybe one of the others work ?
