Who pays if I drive my friends car without a license and get in an accident. My parents don't own a house and there is no money -my mom is collecting social security disability. Who is liable?

Did he give you permission to drive his car (even knowing you have no license)?

I do not know the insurance carriers name. The ower of the car picked up 5 kids at my house Friday. The owner got out of his car to wipe his hands in the snow another passenger jumped in the drivers seat and joked with the owner that he would drive away. The owner joked and dared him. The kid drove away. My 17 year old son drove the car back to the owner and was involved in a fender bender in which the woman went by ambulance to the hospital. The owner lied to the police and said he was driving. The owners mother found out and wanted to go to the police to file the correct report. We agreed. The three are being arrested for interfering with the police. Myson will be giving a ticket for driving without a license, and for driving to close. The woman was not issued a ticket. She was making an illegal turn. The owner said he did not give permission to drive his car. The owner who in Connecticut is not supposed to have passengers in his vehicle. He lied to the police and caused major issues. I collect Social security disability and do not own or have any assets? What happens and who is liable?

In a sense, the owner DID give (tacit) permission to drive the car when he dared the passenger to drive away. Your son was trying to rescue everybody and ended up making it all a bigger mess. I would say the car owner (a teen?) is responsible. Had he not dared the passenger, none of this would have happened. It'll be the owner's insurance company's decision though, but this may end up in court.

The insurance company that insures the car would be the one to question this as they insured the car. If your son was not charged with driving the vehicle without permission then they should be held liable - not your son. The owner of the vehicle should not have lied to the police about driving the vehicle, but it's too late now for that.

No one should have driven the vehicle back if they did not have a license to drive. That WAS stupid of your son to do this. Didn't someone have a cell phone to call and say where they where and to come and get them? The vehicle should not have been driven period under those conditions.

Am comfused as to just who is asking the question. First you say you are the son and then you come back and say you are the mom.

If you are the mom, don't you have your own car insurance? If you do, I'd definitely recommend that you contact your agent and report this to them as soon as possible just in case the accident is taken to court. That's what you have insurance for, you know.
