    What is urd wire
What does the type URD stand for. I know we use it for direct burial. And I was wondering what it meant.

    Thanks

    "Underground Residential Distribution" Cable.

It is for mid-range distribution services. 15 to 35 kV.

URD is widely used for underground 120/240 volt secondary service entrances also, not limited to Medium Voltage.

My guess is you're an apprentice, or new journeyman.

Ask for manufacturers datasheets, or catalogs for any info on any material or parts you come across.

You do read manufactures instructions for everything you install, don't you?

Don, see TK's post. URD is secondary voltage cable, not primary.

    Stan,

I have already seen TK's response. I looked up the IEEE spec. on the cable which stated that the cable was a mid range cable.

Hmmm... OK then. I have never heard URD referred to as that, but I definitely take your word for it.
