    A crown that hurts
I had a root canal and a permanent crown put on in '06 and since last year it's being hurting I asked my new dentist if it's supposed to hurt and she said that it's not because of the root canal but that my crown it' not lined and that's why it's bothering me. My question is... can I go back with the dentist that placed my crown so she can get me the proper one or I just have to pay for another one? I really want to know my options because crowns are not cheap and I don't have dental insurance.

It isn't the crown that hurts, per se, but probably the gum around the crown and doesn't necessarily mean you need a new crown.

You probably need your bite adjusted by the dentist who did the crown and all will be fine.

What do you meant by "hurt"? Do you mean aching for no reason? Does it ache when you chew on it? Does it hurt when you eat or drink something that is hot or cold?
If the tooth has had a root canal the tooth shouldn't be sensitive to temperature or bite.
I'd suggest you see an endodontist (root canal specialist) and have him/her assess the tooth.

My gum hurts and I think the crown is causing the pein and whe I see the gum that is in contact with the crown is kind of blue or purple like if it was bruse. My new dentist says that I need a new crown but I want to know if I can go to my old dentist and request to have my crown fixed or changed.

You can go to whatever dentist you like and are comfortable with. Of course it makes sense to go to your old dentist.

Definitely go back to the dentist who originally did the crown. Have you tried brushing the gum around the crown thoroughly yet gently? Take a wet toothbrush and dip it in some baking soda and gently massage the gum around the crown. Be sure you are pointing the bristles toward the gumline, working them into the space between the tooth and gum and massage. Do this a couple of times a day for the next 2-3 days.
When was your last dental cleaning?

My last dental cleanning was about two months ago. I will try what you suggested. I also want to say that I take really good care of my teeth and I floss every day.
