Can I lose custody of my child for dating a felon?
If I were to date a man convicted of a felony, can the father of my child ( we have joint custody) try to take my parental rights away? This man that I am considering dating was charged with indecent liberties with a minor. He was not aware of the girls age at the time of the incident. Could this be an issue if I decided to date him?

Is this person also a registered sex offender, that crime would be in some states.

But yes your ex can use that against you, it may or may not win but it would be something they can try

First, I doubt if this would be enough to take your rights away. But it could be used to affect custody and visitation. If the man is a convicted sex offender, it seems that it might appear irresponsible for you to bring him not your child's life.

I am not a lawyer but as a Mother I would never allow a man with this history to be any where near my child.

You should know that there are men out there who are hitting on women with young children so they can molest them?(children)

I hope you are not naïve enough to believe this person may not be one of those people.

I'm sure your "ex" will bring this up if he has an interest in getting custody away from you. If you are interested in dating a sex offender perhaps the best thing you can do for your child is allow him/her to live with the other parent, out of contact with the sex offender.

Honestly, I have no idea what you are thinking.
