    How to improve my career?
    Hi,

I am a 22 year old male working in the IT industry for a outsourcing company. I have a nice working environment and the pay is not bad at all considering my age. I'm in a situation where my boss is currently paying for my exam fees which is great seeing as I do all the studying myself out of text books. As you can see this is an ideal situation as I am unfortunately forced to provide for myself financial without any support from family.

I have my MCSE 2003, almost done with Exchange 2007 (which I love) enterprise messaging administrator. Did a few other boring MS exams here and there but nothing major. The problem that I am having is the following: I'm getting bored. I have basically mastered exchange 2007 and I am out of ideas on what technology I can master next that will benefit my career in a big way. We mostly do Microsoft stuff where I work so I guess that I have to stick to the theme if I expect my boss to pay for it. Any ideas?

A suggestion is that instead of more tech courses, you take a few business courses to broaden your knowledge base. This might give you insight into how the technology is best used and help you understand your employer's problems better. It is good to be an expert, but sometime you can get too narrowly focused.

    It's a thought.

Also, consider taking psychology courses in order to understand how clients' and customers' and coworkers' and bosses' minds work.

I completely agree with what you guys have in mind and that is definitely my idea for the long run however my boss is only willing to pay for technical exams and I want to make that most of that opportunity while I can. I will definitely be taking other courses on my own term but until then I would like to make the most of my 'free' technical training. Any ideas?

Dwelling in the world of Microsoft will make anyone bored. I did IT for both internships I had before I graduated college and I hated both of them because I wasn't learning anything. Now, I'm a software developer and love it.

Here's my suggestion: move into networking. Cisco Systems offers several levels of certification and are the de facto standard for all things networking. All business need a network engineer and it's more involved than a Windows Support Specialist.

I knew a kid that got his Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification, it's not easy stuff man, you'll be happy you switched.

    Dig this link.

Improve policing [ 8 Answers ]

In a distressed community I work in, the police are poorly paid (it's about $8/hour) and their level of training coming on to the force is lower, too.
