I get sharp pains in my left foot when I urinate, the pain stops/goes away when I finish urinating. What the heck could cause this?

Are you standing in the same place each time this happens?

If so, I'd suggest making sure there's nothing sharp on the floor there! :D

I have exactly the same problem except in my right foot. The pain is excruciating and grows as I 'open up' and will sometimes become okay once I have gotten over that threshold but other times is quite bad from start to finish. This is the second time I've had this - the first being 3 months ago which lasted a week. At that time I asked my doctor about it but he knew of no explanation and ran some basic checks on me (reflexes, urine sample, blood pressure etc) but all was fine. At the end of the first occurrence it seemed to help to curl my toes inwards while urinating but I'm now experiencing it again and it seems to be lasting longer and this technique is less effective. I found your question via Google and wondered if you came up with an answer yourself or (hopefully) it went away of its own accord?

I have the same problem and this is the second time it has happened, I'm getting ready to go to the doctor on Wednesday but I was wondering if you guys came up with an answer.

Hi All. I phoned the GP for an appointment and had to explain the symptoms to the receptionist - so I am quite famous now! The GP had no idea what was wrong and said I should go back if it continues and he will run some tests and or ask other doctors if they have heard of this too. The pain stopped for a while but like you guys, it has returned again but not as bad as before. Well I guess that between the three of us we should find out something over time. I will keep you informed of progress.

The first time I had it I think it lasted a little less then two weeks, this time its only been a few days that I have had it and made my appointment to see the doctor but I think based on what I have read that I probably won't get many answers. Do any of you have a bad back??

I ran into a friend of mine that happens to be a very well respected doctor and I gave him a brief history of what was going on, his response was that it has to be something with my sciatic nerve (hope I spelled that right) and that when your muscle contracts when you first begin to take care of business it must be putting pressure on it, he told me to take some Motrin to get the swelling down and see what happens... well guess what, took it last night before bed and I have gone twice today with out the slightest bit of pain.

Advil or ibuprofen; generic version.

I have the same prob / excruciating pain in left big toe when taking a piss. First began after a long plane flight , don't know if that means anything.
Anyway Doc basically laughed and said it should go away in 10 days or so
Not good enough for me so am going to get acupuncture tomorrow / they said bladder is linked to left foot according to Chineese medicine so will see what happens
If anybody has any other ideas let me know as this is a real pain, literally

Wow... so happy to see that I am not CRAZY! Everyone thinks I'm nuts. I do have a lower back issue. I am going to try Motrin. It makes since about the Sciatica nerve. THANKS!

I have this sharp pain two inches above the ankle on my left leg when I pee. Sometime when the flow starts, other times once I'm already going, and then in between the two. Had this for a week. I'm thinking pinched nerve in the bladder area, but what do I know other than I have a short sharp pain in the left ankle area when peeing. Odd. I feel it is a nerve thing and will go away once the nerve is out of the way of the pinch. I'll go to the chiropractor and see if an adjustment helps out. I'll keep you posted.

I can probably provide some conclusive evidence that this is sciatic related. I've never heard of this pain before, but today I gave myself a gluteal intramuscular injection, and all the sudden experienced pain in my left foot while urinating. Irritation of the sciatic nerve is one of the main cautions of gluteal injections, and it began within 15 minutes. I don't think I hit the nerve, but probably swelling of the tissue due to all the fluid is touching the nerve.

Would love to hear how this ended... I'm 48 and I get the slight shock in top part of my right foot when I start to urinate then it quickly goes away. Perhaps related or not... have 1.16 to 1.3 ratio for my kidneys.

A lot more info would be great. Especially age. I have the same condition you all have and after all the painful test the diagnosis was inflamed bladder due to a large bladder stone. The stone would move upon urination and scrape on the sensitive bladder wall. Pain was transferred down the leg only during urination. Follows nerve pathways that are hard to describe but these nerve pathways are connected to embryonic development. I am sure other bladder inflammation problems can cause this also. The specialist said the stone was so large that it would never move out of the bladder so no surgery is needed. It would be wise to drink plenty of fluids he said to keep the stone from getting larger. Hope this helps. Dr. Del
