What are these Itchy Red Bumps?
Itchy bumps appear on face out of no where I can just be sitting at my desk at work a part of my face starts to itch its like a mesquito bite even if I don't scratch it can swell. I don't use commercial products on my face only natural ingredients (literally stuff out of my kitchen). I laid my head on my boyfriends shoulder last night after a few minutes two red itchy bumps appeared on that side of my face. I didn't scratch. I was looking at them in the mirror and out of no where another tiny bump appeared on the corner of my eye it also itched (this was the opposite side). They were gone by the morning. So they just appear from no where. Also last night top of the right side of my lip itched I scratched and within minutes I had a hard lump above my lip that swelled like someone had punched me in my mouth! I checked my sheets to see if something has bit me and nothing! I was thinking about the heat from radiator in my bedroom causing the problem but this happens when Im not even at home. Its been going on for months I can't remember exactly when it started. But twice in one weeks time Ive broken out in hives on my face. Once after I ate some chinese food and the second time after I applied a teeny tiny dab of lotion on my face (I don't apply lotion on my face normally) a few minutes after I applied it I had hives on my chin and along my jawline that itch like CRAZY they were gone in a few hours! Any suggestions

    Hi,
Might be fungus, also some form of psoriasis and so. Visit a specialist skin doctor.

I suffer from the same thing, almost anything that brushes up against me causes raised bumps that turn into red welts that last usually 30 minutes or so. Its called Dermographism Hives AKA Skin Writing Disease. If you take your nail and write your name in your skin more than likely your name will appear in welts. Mine is agrevated by stress and not an allergy. Using lotion all over seems to help. I also use medicated powder on the real bad welts. You can read more about it here Dermatographic urticaria - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I was about to say what cff posted, but I didn't know the official name for it. It is NOT dangerous or contagious. It is not a fungus or psoriasis. I can get the same thing from stress or an allergic reaction to something I can never identify. I have sensitive skin in general. I can also get hives on my skin, like on my arms when it's hot. The bigger single ones are welts. I've tried a natural cream I found at the pharmacy, but it's italian and I have no idea what its equivalent would be. Anything with an antihistamine usually seems to help a little. They should totally go away by themselves within a couple of hours. I use make-up to cover up anything that's not noticeable. The prevalence of it can come and go. It's usually not a big deal, especially if you carry some concealer in your purse.

Sane thing has been happening to me lately. If you put a tiny bit of alcohol on it then it should stop itching.

I have one sitting on the side of my face right now... they're a major PITA! This one still itches and I've had it for several hours. I don't however get welps from scratching myself. These bumps just pop up on my face, they itch like mad and then go away within time.

Same thing! One day just my cheeks and jaw line started itching and the bumbs appeared. Its been about a month and the bumps haven't gone away and it still itches. I've always had great skin and haven't had acne or pimples in years. My uneducated guess is my boyfriend who is usually sweaty/oily may be the cause seeing as I constantly rub my face on his and live with him so I use his pillows.

I also get these and have spent numerous hours researching the cause. Eliminating various allergy causing foods and drinks. It has taken a couple of years but I now know what causes it. Ascorbic acid. Orange juice, tomatoes especially. It happened today a huge one on my chin, looked and felt like a mosquito bite. I had tune and boiled ice for lunch and an orange juice. Within 20 min utes bingo there it was. I have a couple of wines each night and itchy bumps or itchy spots on my legs or anywhere somethiong prickles the skin, like wher underpants bands press etc.

I have the same problem as you, and unlike some of the responses, mine does not just go away within a few hours, but instead several days. When it first started, my doctor said it was a sinus backup, but it happens on a regular basis now without any issues with my sinus's. Mine tends to occur overnight, and most times I wake up with the large itchy knot. If I scratch it or mess with it in any way then my face will swell up. Currently, I have a smaller then the average knot for me that came up on my eyebrow. I had a migraine, so I wasn't thinking about it and scratched and messed with it while watching TV. The next morning I woke up with the eye and part of that side of my face swelled. I took my zyrtec, and within a few hours the swelling went back down, but the next night the eye reswells. I have talked to the doctor in the past, but so far it seems that the doctor knows less then what I know. I really wish this was something that we could figure out. I have stopped washing my face with anything other then Dove soap, I don't use lotion on my face anymore, and I apply Hydrocortisone every night and before applying makeup. This has helped, and the outbreaks are less frequent, and not as bad when they do occur, but it would be nice to figure out what is the actual cause of this irritating problem. It's hard to function when you can't open one eye, and you feel like crude. Good luck everyone, and if I find out something I'll post it, and please if you do find an answer let all of us know as well. :)

I have a very similar problem to two of the above, I get little red bumps around my lips, especially above my upper lip (mustache area, but not only there). They start under the skin, and you can barely see a tiny red area which appears as a white area if it's right around the lip. It feels numb and itchy, sometimes there will be a raised bump and look like a small pimple. Sometimes the numbed area twitches a little. Normally I just apply rubbing alcohol or Abreva to the area, and it will go away by the next day 75% of the time.

I am male, and this started at 22, and am now 24. This started November 2011, right after my girlfriend at the time returned from a trip on which I found out she cheated on me. I am a medical student, and I know for a fact that this is not Herpes or HPV, and I have not had any other STDs. The reason I mention the cheating is this period brought on a lot of stress and thus I am not sure if these bumps were stress induced or an infection she brought back.

I have had blood tests, and tissue samples done and every time it comes up clear, and all the doctors I've seen have brushed it off. The problem is now (May 2012) I still have these little bumps or dots appearing every couple of days (3-5 times a week), all through the year, and regardless of location (I've moved three times since this started, no change at all). Also I took Claritin and Reactine daily, for 4 months, and they did not help either.

Some of the dots have left blemishes around my lips (none of these dots are on the lips, but rather on the edges where the lips fade).

I realize what a rant this has been but nothing has stopped this, and the time in which it began leads me to be very suspicious of it's origins. Either my girlfriend cheating on me really traumatized me for life (was a big hit to me, very serious relationship 4+ years) and I'm still suffering the consequences, or something else is going on, any help would be very much appreciated, otherwise more input from everyone helps other people with similar conditions too.

Mine start as itchy places that then turn red and eventually weep. It was really bad last winter and then in the summer, my face was fine, now, 2 days after lighting the propane heaters, the itching has started and the rash is starting. Anyone else heat with Propane or LP gas? I am wondering it I'm not allergic to the gas!

Been having this issue for 1 year. 1 doctor had NO idea, 1 said acne (which I'm sure it's not because I have), last 1 was sure of what it was and gave a name I'd never heard of and cannot find in searches(I may go back and get the spelling/name) But he prescribed a different antihistamine every 1-2 months so I kind of lost faith in him. I normally get 2-5 bumps that come and go daily in different area of my face. They pop up at any given time OR whenever my face is washed or scrubbed. I thought it was the water until I noticed how often they pop up for no reason. It stopped for a few weeks But I cannot identify why... But it's back now and even a couple in other areas of my body! I've always used natural products and occasionally sacylic acid. Looks like something is biting me?!

Can you correlate the bumps to something environmental or to changes in your health?

For example a specific tree is pollenating, or a inversion is causing the smog to be lower and in your face, or the west wind is causing the exhaust of a industrial plant to blow into your region.

Another thing to consider is the strength of your immune system. When I get a cold I know it because I break out and my lips get dry. Acne can be caused by the natural bacteria on your skin infecting a pore. So I know my immune system is compromised because of the increased acne.

I can't say what you have, that is neigh on impossible on the internet, so the research for this is going to be in your court. What changed and what hasn't in those weeks?

Also try to find a dermatologist.
